Jobs & Games

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering around the forum and suddenly wondered about all the different jobs that people have.. I'm a student at the moment, and havent actually played any of the games yet - reading a book a the moment, that I have to finish and understand!

I was also wondering how people combine playing with their jobs - play the games in their free time I suppose.. but.. often? not so often? once a year?

(do I even say it right when I use the words games and playing? Im really not familiar with all of this >.<)

I have no job, because being a student is a full-time job! And I haven't ever been able to play any roleplaying games. :( *sigh*

Your word usage is fine.

I'm a full time college student majoring in Anthropology and Geography (my goal is to become a professional archaeologist, specializing in the ancient Mediterranean) but I do have a part-time job. I work in Consumer Electronics.

Much of my free time is spent running play by post freeform RPGs. Most of my RPGs utilize elements of the WoD setting, although my players rarely have prior experience with it, and I myself have never had the good fortune to participate in a real game.

Stay at home daddy here... some consider that full time. As far as rpgs go, I am currently involved in an oWoD vamp game that just had its 2 year mark. As well as a seasonal larp in nWoD. Also about 6 times a year I get to play in a homebrew style anime game based on the Lunar video games that has been running for almost 12 years now.

I'm a mild-mannered assistant office manager by day, superheroic novelist by night! And when I can steal time away from one or the other occupation, I roleplay.

Most of the roleplay I've been involved in recently has been of the online variety, mostly in MMOs and a little bit of chat-based gaming. I'd like to get my old tabletop group back together, if our schedules permit, and delve into the NWoD at last. Maybe even a little Scion...

And in a bizarre case of roleplaying influencing one's work, the series I'm currently writing was inspired by a short story I wrote that was, in turn, inspired by Exalted. And to bring it all full circle, the original short story is being revised to fully fit into the world I've developed, and will become the first part of Book Two. Crazy how that all works out.

I am a government drone by day and Indie RPG publisher by night. I am currently playing in a game of exalted every other week as well as an online RPG, but my gaming his been limited due to my time spent trying to write my gaming books. Crazy how that works.

I'm currently a full-time student pursuing an advanced degree in Criminal Justice and Psychology (eventual criminal profiler). At the moment my duties are to my education and to the upkeep of my home, wife, Corgi and Manx. That takes up a whole heck of a lot of time, but what little I have left over goes into reading WhiteWolf material for fun (rarely - if ever - get to play anymore). Currently reading Geist with gusto, wondering where its pages might take me...

Unemployed, at the moment. Was working as customer support not so long ago.

Regardless, don't play to much lately. May go back to a little online again, I think I can spare some time. :hehe:

I am a Lab Systems Administrator for a company called Schwarz Pharma(my wife also works there as a Chemist). Basically I'm a software administrator for some of the stuff they use in the labs.

Formerly, I was an IT guy at a Lexmark Warehouse, but that places was shut down over a year ago.

I'm a civil servant. I work in the dole office. This is still better than my last job as a tech support agent for AOL.

And I game loads. D&D & Vampire weekly, Traveller periodically, plus boardgames, cardgames and videogames interspliced with the occasional con. Living the dream.

Hey Morrigan, been a while! You finished your Brass Court game yet?

I work for a private language school in Japan teaching English. I usually work from 3 to 9pm so I have a lot of free time in the morning but it's difficult to organise games because my players live in a different city and have busy schedules.

I'm a postdoctoral research assistant (full time) and so I game once a week with a few local friends and spend about an hour a night writing for any one of the rp projects I have (vampire, changeling, freshers week mortals game). I guess I am lucky in some respects because the chronicle I have for Vampire was written 4 years back so I am just retro fitting it as I go.

I have a BA in archaeology (with some specialisation in Viking Age and especially Scandinavia->Gotland) and am trying to write a Masters. But I got severely sidetracked when I suddenly got a job at the GW Stockholm store, and it's so darn fun some days I can't imagine anything better, barring only sitting in dusty archives and reading and being archaeology-geeky! And then some days, one really feels the bad sides of working in what is, which people tend to forget, actually retail.
