ShenFei_Mau-275x300.pngMonarchies of Mau’s Aeris von Angora illustration for Monarchies of Mau.

Faith and religion were easy for me to write in Pugmire. As soon as I settled on “Man” as a linguistic analogue for “God,” a lot of things fell into place — the Code of Man, the Church of Man, and even casual blasphemy like “Man damn it.” The whole concept was pretty much there right at the beginning, just waiting for me to flesh out the details.

With Monarchies of Mau, it was trickier. I knew I wanted cats to believe that humanity worshiped them — partially to play off ancient Egyptian references to such, which tied into the name “Mau,” and partially to give dogs and cats a built-in reason to fight — but I didn’t know much beyond that. I decided I didn’t want a monolithic church like in Pugmire, but something more spiritual and personal. It took a while before I hit on the “cats have nine lives” phrase being a nod to reincarnation. (Side note: It’s interesting how some things seem really obvious in retrospect, but sometimes it takes a lot of work to get to the “obvious” idea. A lot of times, when you see something that seems like someone should have thought of it before, it’s because no one really has thought of it before.)

Once reincarnation was on the table, I knew I had a large problem, and honestly it’s a problem I still have today. You see, the weird dead-gestalt-god idea in Pugmire works because we as the readers know the true answer: humanity isn’t really around helping dogs. The core premise of the book refutes that, but no one questions that core premise, which freed me up to allow the dogs to be very earnest about their faith. At the core, however, was one unquestionable truth about the setting: Dogs are wrong.

When I started mentioning reincarnation, however, my beta readers jumped to the opposite conclusion: that nine lives are concrete, real, and countable. In other words, dogs are wrong but cats are right. I was told that reincarnation must be true, because why would cats believe it if it wasn’t. Setting aside the fact that humans have believed in reincarnation for quite a long time with very little evidence of such, I wasn’t comfortable with one faith system being explicitly true and another one being explicitly false. Either both had to be true, or neither were. And since so much of the tone and feeling of Pugmire was based on Dogs Being Wrong About People™ , I had to rule that cats were also wrong.

There is another reason why I’ve stuck by my guns, however, aside from pure artistic vision. I also knew early on that cats would have access to necromancy — something that dogs would abhor. The reason why cats are more casual about it makes sense in the context of reincarnation being on the table: if you’re going to be reborn at some point anyway, what does it matter if another cat uses your corpse for some personal gain? You’re done with it, right? If we know that cats are actually wrong, however, then necromancy becomes something we as players still find a little horrible. That’s important in order for undead monsters to have any impact at the table.

Now obviously, not all cats feel that way. Some are still attached to the mortal remains of their loved ones. Further, just like there are dogs that don’t believe in the Church or Code of Man, there are cats who don’t believe in reincarnation. If you’ve been promised additional lives and it turns out you were wrong, finding ways to come back to life becomes precious, so there ends up being lots of reasons why cats study this aspect of magic. (Compare to dogs, who accept they only have one life. That’s why they’re more devoted to friends and families — people that can remember them — than the more individualistic cats.)

Finally, if I ruled that reincarnation was explicitly true, players would inevitably play cats as more fatalistic, which wasn’t something I wanted. Instead of being unique, textured characters, cats would just be like video game lives, being ground down until the last one remained. Only the “last life” would matter on a mechanical level, because that’s the one you can’t afford to lose. No matter how harsh I made the act of reincarnation in the rules, the cost is always lower than “I can no longer play my character.”

All that said, I did put an optional rule in the game about reincarnation. If you want it to be true in your game, I certainly won’t stop you. Keep in mind, though, that choosing to go that route does end up establishing precedents in your like like the ones I mention. If you understand them and are cool with them, enjoy yourself and I’ll see you in the next life!

Now available in PDF and print from DriveThruRPG: The Book of Oblivion for Wraith: The Oblivion 20th Anniversary Edition!

The horror doesn’t stop just because you’re dead, my friend.
You could say it’s only just begun.

Hell, I’ve been living inside your head for enough years to know your every tick, your every tension, your every failing and foible. It seems perverse that I had to wait until you were dead to act on each of them. At least now I can poke and prod you to my heart’s content, reforging you into the soul you were always meant to be.

And get this: If I fail, the whole Underworld — through storm, Spectre, and smith’s hammer — is going to rip you apart.

You’ll pray for Oblivion once we’re done with you.

The Book of Oblivion includes:

  • New Shadow Archetypes, Thorns, and an array of horrifying new antagonists.
  • Chapters devoted to Spectres, their terrible cults, and the rare process of Spectre redemption.
  • Deep explorations of the Tempest; the Labyrinth; the Dark Kingdoms of Flint, Gold, Ivory, Obsidian, and Swar; the Mirrorlands; and several other bizarre and fascinating Necropoli.

Vengeance of the Shunned

A Scarred Lands Community Content campaign for Slarecian Vault

SV-Logo-Website.png

A veteran of the Titanswar, driven to megalomania by loss and pain, runs rampant across the continent of Ghelspad on a twisted quest that threatens to unleash the power of a long dead Titan and endanger every life on Scarn in Vengeance of the Shunned! Vengeance of the Shunned is a collaborative campaign for use with our Scarred Lands 5e setting. This project is a massive undertaking including numerous creators working together to craft a story arc that takes characters from level 1-15. In addition to the ten core adventures, this campaign offers 8 side quests, a collection of creatures, new and old, optimized for 5e, a gazetteer detailing important locations featured in the campaign, and an overview of the Scarred Planes with guidelines for how they function in the 5e rules. These resources are being released weekly via the Slarecian Vault, and each week we take a little time at the Scarred Lands Facebook page to spotlight the creators involved with that week’s releases.

Well, hello!

I’m back from both GenCon and then a week off on family vacation, and big thanks to the amazing Dixie for filling in with this blog last week!

I’m full of energy and rarin’ to go. Doing that thing where you bounce on your toes a bit – which is kind of hard to do typing away as I have been all day!

If my emails were physical mail, the letters would fill my office, so I’m taking a bit of time to get through all of them. Plus, this week’s Monday Meeting was a fair bit of catch-up for all of our crew (besides Eddy, who is still on his vacay visiting wrestling events), with a few reports from us on GenCon, and the meetings that came out of it.

Which I’ll share with you now:

First, the message we relayed at our various panels was that we’re continuing to change/evolve as we need to as a company. So if you think our Kickstarters are only about Deluxe books and we run them like we did in 2013, please check again, because we’re far more likely to run a KS in order to do a print run of books to get into retail stores.

Which is another continuing evolution as we continue to add projects that will mean books that get into distribution and stores via our sales partners at Studio2 and IPR– all while maintaining our availability on DriveThruRPG and our other venues.

The big change at GenCon was our choice to not appear there with an Onyx Path booth in the Exhibitor Hall, so that was something brought up a fair bit at the convention.

So far, from talking things through today, we’re still thinking it was a good decision. Both Mighty Matt McElroy and I had much more time to talk with creators like Travis Legge, our friends in the business (either existing or prospective), translators, and I even made a walk-through of artist alley and got to chat with some of our favorites.

Meanwhile, as we anticipated, our panels were a great place to field questions from our regular attendees. Thanks to all of you who attended and put us through our paces with your questions! We’ll be getting a report on how our demo games went later from The Wrecking Crew, but I, at least, only heard good things about those.

If you were there, or had friends there, and heard anything otherwise about our presence at Gen Con, please let me know – either here in the comments or directly to richt@theonyxpath.com. We really do appreciate knowing how others saw things.

Another big set of questions were about White Wolf/Paradox and how Vampire, V5, WoD, 20th Anniversaries, CofD, and Exalted are going to be created, published, handled.

Part of the confusion was within that “not happening like it used to” theme we talked about. WW/Paradox is signing lots of licensees for all sorts of projects; mostly for V5, but also for other WoD projects. Seeing boardgames come out from four or five different companies, several card games from different companies including the rebirth of Vampire: the Eternal Struggle, and also several computer games is a lot happening that we should be thrilled about as fans.

What seems the most confusing for folks, though, is when they see different companies producing V5 TTRPGs, maybe because they’re concerned about V5 game books being created by multiple companies and that’s just not how it has been done, or they’re are concerned about rules and setting coherence, or overall quality. Or maybe because it’s not clear how the rest of the WoD game lines will be handled.

We at Onyx Path can only reply as we did at the con – with our understanding of the situation. Which is that it is not easy to reconfigure a business as WW/Paradox has been reconfigured and that currently their team is juggling a lot of existing licensed projects as the folks responsible for overseeing the V5 brand. That means, in answer to the concerns of coherence and quality, that WW/Paradox reviews and approves all the projects and follows through their creation with further approvals to maintain everything V5 the way they want it.

Which is another good reason they are working with the fine folks at Modiphius to get more V5 TTRPG material published, as Modiphius can take the biggest portion of the nuts and bolts of publishing and working with other licensees like Onyx Path off of WW/Paradox‘s busy hands and let them focus on brand management.

As for us, well, the wonderful accolades for V5 Chicago By Night‘s Backer PDF, the strong interest in the follow-up material for CbyN that came out of the Kickstarter Stretch goals, and the recent happy excitement over the V5 Cults of the Blood Gods press release, are all music to our ears and are great data-points when we discuss further projects.

(And hey, I know that sometimes it seems like we say stuff over and over on all our social media, including this MMN blog, about our upcoming projects, but we heard from so many surprised folks after that Cults press release who had no idea it was coming that you just gotta let us keep getting the word out in as many ways – and as often we have to in order to reach our far-flung fantastic fans!)

Beyond V5, and figuring that the time will come that other game lines get attention, it’s always going to start with what WW/Paradox wants to do, so they’re the folks you want to politely let know your thoughts and feelings about those WW game lines. We can, and do, submit pitches as a licensee, but they’re the owners and decide which things get the green light to move ahead.

Back to overall Onyx Path changes, we noted at Gen Con that there was no new brochure debuted at Gen Con, as we want to do a full year one – Jan through Dec. So expect 2020 one to debut a month early at PAX Unplugged this year and then throughout 2020’s cons starting with MidWinter in Jan.

That also means that we didn’t spring any new projects at the con, as we usually build them into the brochure. Part of that is the brochure timing thing, and part of it is that we’re looking at announcements that roll out through the year rather than happening at a single event- unless tying it to the event makes the most sense.

You can expect some of those about new projects unannounced that are already in the works, as well as those we worked out in meetings at Gen Con, throughout the rest of this year and through 2020, as we keep on making:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SP-Logo-Image-300x173.png

Onyx Path Publishing and DriveThruRPG Partner to Create “Storypath Nexus”, a Community Content Program for Storypath System-powered Games

August 1, 2019 — Onyx Path Publishing, owner and producer for the Scion 2nd Edition, Trinity Continuum, and They Came from Beneath the Sea tabletop game lines, is partnering with DriveThruRPG to allow independent content creators to publish material in the Storypath Nexus program. This Community Content program utilizes the Storypath System that powers several games published by Onyx Path.

The Storypath system is Onyx Path’s rules set designed specifically to allow the sort of rules scaling necessary to seamlessly enable players to play ordinary people as well as mad scientists and seasoned explorers. The Storypath system employs a 10-sided dice pool. To resolve an action, players roll a number of dice equal to the character’s Skill + Attribute and must roll an 8 or better in order to succeed in the action.

“I am really excited to see what kinds of supplements for Scion 2nd Edition fans upload to the Storypath Nexus program,” said Matt M McElroy, Operations Manager for Onyx Path Publishing. “Whether that is new adventures or antagonists, it will be great to see how the community expands our games both now and in the future.”

The Storypath Nexus Community Content program features:

  • Self-publish service for tabletop RPG material set using the all-new Scion 2nd Edition: Hero and Scion 2nd Edition: Origin releases.
  • Content creators themselves set the price for the material they publish and receive 50% of the revenue.
  • Access to templates and art packs produced helps content creators make their work look as professional as the official products
  • Opportunities to develop new content as additional games and supplements are released and unlocked for Storypath Nexus.

Storypath Nexus is the third Community Content program Onyx Path Publishing has launched thus far. The Slarecian Vault for Scarred Lands was Onyx Path Publishing’s second Community Content program, which was released after Canis Minor for the Realms of Pugmire.

The Community Content programs now available are:

All three content programs offer guidelines and assets to help the community release new supplements for their favorite games. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 1, 2019 — Rich Thomas, founder and Creative Director of Onyx Path Publishing, announced the company’s next supplement for the newly-launched Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition corebook will be Cults of the Blood Gods.

“I’m tremendously excited to be developing Cults of the Blood Gods for V5! We’ll be seeing all kinds of faiths and factions, from the Church of Set to the Hecata, the Bahari to the Church of Caine, the Mithraic Mysteries to the Cult of Shalim, and more besides,” said Matthew Dawkins, the World of Darkness developer for Onyx Path Publishing. “Being able to provide rules for this edition’s Clan of Death is quite the privilege, and we’ll be looking to impress people with how they’re presented. I’ve got an excellent, diverse team with a range of experience on this book, and we’re all going to work hard to make it stand out.”

Cults of the Blood Gods is a new style of sourcebook for Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition that introduces the pernicious horror of twisted beliefs. Designed for players and Storytellers, this supplement will include:

  • Scary, esoteric vampiric cults used in modern nights that include churches, heresies, and warring dogmas.
  • Kindred cults and faiths built around methuselah worship, including holy rites, in-character texts, and religious tracts.
  • Setting, advice, and rules to play the Hecata, the Clan of Death.

The manuscript for Cults of the Blood Gods is currently being written and developed using the new Vampire: The Masquerade Fifth Edition rules. A Kickstarter is planned for a prestige edition of this supplement and is expected to launch sometime in 2019. Standard digital and print editions will be released following fulfillment of the Kickstarter.

VLocke_BookoftheFallen.jpgArt for Book of the Fallen by Vincent Locke

The title may say “Monday Meeting Notes” because, well, it’s Monday and that’s what we do!

But it’s a lie.

There was no Monday Meeting this week.

Now that I’ve established myself as an unreliable narrator, what will you do? How can you trust that the information I’m bringing you is accurate? I’m even questioning myself at this point! It probably should have said “Monday Musings by Dixie” or something. I honestly have no idea how Rich does one of these every week.

Anyway…

Tucker_BookoftheFallen.jpgBook of the Fallen art by Drew Tucker

Hi, this is Dixie! As I said, there was no Monday meeting this week because Gen Con just wrapped up and everyone is either traveling, on vacation, or didn’t volunteer to have a 2-4 person meeting in which we couldn’t do much without the rest of the team (a wise choice, no? We’re rather wise). Rich will be back next week with a full update, much as we did for UK Games Expo a few months back, but until then they’ve (unwisely, probably) left me in charge with no oversight. I say this week is “aberrant” because many folks were out of the office, but also because of the Aberrant Kickstarter funding! More on that later.

As most of you know from previous blogs, we didn’t have a booth at Gen Con this year, but that was a very intentional choice, and shouldn’t be seen as a negative indicator of anything. We did have books for sale at both Studio 2 and IPR, and we did some panels! The members of the team who did go had a chance to attend more meetings and panels, as well as roam the floor a bit more to reach out to folks. (I didn’t go, but I bought a t-shirt and buttons in D.C., played some video games, did a cool playtest with some friends, and didn’t have to walk around in Indianapolis in the summer, so…)

Matt McElroy (sorry, Rich, I can’t bring myself to do the nicknames. I just can’t. That’s your thing.) sent along some photos from the show, so here’s a little slice of Gen Con

67686482_10156553492818443_2018494501517A display of Onyx Path books at Studio 2! Look at all the Scion! Those banners! Cats and dogs living together! Changeling: The Lost and Scarred Lands! So much!image1.jpegThe Wrecking Crew running some demos!

They also saw a few of our Onyx Path artists!

image2.jpegHello, Priscilla! (I have a print of that Scarlet Empress piece from Exalted and it’s divine. (No pun intended until after I typed it.)image3.jpegIt’s Steve Ellis! He’s worked on a few lines for us, including Scion: Hero! (No one gave me a list! I’m trying!)image4.jpegClaudio Pozas has also worked on quite a few things for us, including the terrifying goat-thing piece from Adventures for Curious Cats, the first book I developed! Thanks for being so talented, Claudio!

Darker Days Radio recorded our What’s Up With Onyx Path? panel and you can listen to it here:

The other super-cool thing that happened last week aside from Gen Con was that Trinity Continuum: Aberrant funded! We ended at $125,098, or 312% of our funding target! Once we get BackerKit set up we’ll be posting links here, I’m sure, but until then here are some of the stretch goals we unlocked via the campaign:

  • N!WE N!TERNATIONAL WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT – A new PDF product discussing the N!WE, the performers and industry personnel, and various elements of professional wrestling in the world of Aberrant.
  • PROTEUS NOVA COMPENDIUM SECTIONS 1-3 – A new PDF product, with stat blocks for many characters featured in bio write-ups in the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant book. All backers receiving the PDF version of Trinity Continuum: Aberrant will have this automatically added to their rewards list.
  • ABERRANT NOVELLA – A short story set in the world of Aberrant, highlighting the world and characters.
  • ART BUDGET INCREASE – Additional funds will be allocated to the art budget, adding more amazing and incredible art to the Trinity Continuum: Aberrant  book.
  • NOVAS WORLDWIDE 1-3 – Introductory scenarios, designed to jumpstart a longer chronicle.
  • IN-GAME FICTION –  Duke Rollo, direct and uncensored journalist of the world of Aberrant is back with more irreverent insights into the ironies of life in a nova-loving world. A new essay will be released as a PDF.
AbCover_original.pngNot final design!

That’s SO MUCH, and that’s only a few of them. I can’t wait to see what all we do with Aberrant. Congratulations to Steve Kenson, Ian A. A. Watson, Eddy Webb, and the rest of the amazing Aberrant team! If you are unfamiliar with the world, here is an actual play we did over the past couple of weeks:

Additionally, if you like that sort of thing, we are streaming more and more via Twitch at https://www.twitch.tv/theonyxpath. Come say hi! We’ve been doing actual plays, interviews, and even a live Pathcast! Hit that follow button so you get notified whenever we go live.

Kickstarter!

I already talked about Aberrant‘s amazing wrap up above, but keep an eye out for the Deviant: The Renegades Kickstarter when it launches! (I’m personally very excited for that one, for obvious reasons: It’s a brand-new line launched with me as the Chronicles of Darkness in-house developer! Also Eric and Dave have done amazing work, along with all the writers. I’m waiting with bated breath for the art to start rolling in.)

If you went to Gen Con this year, what was your favorite thing there? If you didn’t go, what announcements did you enjoy or what do you hope to do there in the future? Tell us in the comments!

Full disclosure: with flying to Gen Con being two days away, my brain is squirming like a toad. So, quick points from the meeting, all arranged haphazardly just like that toad.

  • Trinity Continuum: Aberrant Kickstarter Woohoo: With the TC: Aberrant KS down to it’s last day, we are just thrilled by the number and quality of backers and their commentary. Considering that the original Trinity Continuum KS was for both the Core and TC: Aeon and this one is mostly for one book, it really speaks volumes for how the game is gripping people’s imaginations! Big thanks also to our “KS Concierge” James Bell for his tireless efforts and never-flagging good humor all through this one! (I’ll see James at Gen Con to deliver my personal thanks and buy him a drink or twenty!)
  • V5 Chicago By Night Response: We sent out the Backer PDF for CbyN last week and the comments have been all about how great it looks, and how fantastic the writing is. It’s been so wonderful to hear that our first V5 book has been given top marks for quality! We particularly love hearing how we were able to show how V5 can work in a concrete way. This was always what we intended for a new CbyN, so it’s really gratifying for the whole team! Thanks for all your positive feedback!

  • GenCon Reminder: Like I said, going there in two days. Mighty Matt McElroy and I are representing for Onyx Path and will be walking around, hanging at our sales partners’ (Studio2 and Indie Press Revolution) booths. We’ll also stop in to where The Wrecking Crew are running demos of our games in the gaming area, and, of course, running our panels. We’ll be joined by Eddy Webb and some of our other creators on the panels, and we look forward to answering your questions. We will not have a booth – this year we chose not to have one. We’ll see if that’s a great idea, or a horrible, horrible mistake.
  • Twitch Goodness: If you missed it, last week we started our Onyx Path Twitch Kickoff, with TC:Aberrant and other actual play sessions, interviews, and an entire episode of the Onyx Pathcast that was broadcast live on Twitch. (Fear not, it’ll be up in audio-only form as usual for the Pathcast!) We are trying out a lot of different content; either our own or by hosting other folks’ streams, and not coincidentally moving towards “Affiliate Status”, which gives us even more fun ways for everyone to enjoy Twitch streams. https://www.twitch.tv/videos/459571845
AaronRiley_SpilledBlood.pngVtR2 Spilled Blood art by Aaron Riley
  • 5e Creature Collection Kickstarter Coming: Jon Hodgson and his crew at Handiworks Games are reaaaalllly close to launching the Kickstarter campaign for what promises to be an absolutely gorgeous book of Scarred Lands monsters! One of the cool things about this collaboration has been that it is also the launch of a new official Onyx Path Kickstarter account. Since we’ve started, our KSs have been run off of my account, with my picture in the corner and folks sending comments and questions directly to me even if it has actually been our KS “concierge” James who is running them. So Jon can run this one for Creature Collection, and we’ll see how to best migrate other KSs over to the official Onyx Path Kickstarters. Here’s a preview of the book: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/283745/Scarred-Lands-Creature-Collection-Preview-2
  • Next Week’s MMN Blog Guest-blogger: Will be Dixie! She volunteered and so she gets the prize! We’ll send photos of the Con – some might even be worth showing off – and any other tidbits we glean out of the madness.
  • New Onyx Path Team Shirt Sizes Needed: Yes, we pretty much closed our meeting with this request from Mighty Matt, and we’re hoping to get these made up in time to wear to PAX Unplugged in the Fall. It has been a few years since the first official team shirt, and our crew thinks it’s time to get some that are a bit more lightweight than our previous ones. Which just goes to demonstrate that not all of our meeting is about our amazing:

Reminder before we get started:

ONYX PATH DOES NOT HAVE A BOOTH THIS YEAR.

Rich Thomas and Matt McElroy will be attending, and you’ll be able to find them wandering around or at our panels, but there’s no Onyx Path booth.

You can find our products for sale at either the Indie Press Revolution booth (#1348) or at Studio 2 (#1929/2029).

As usual, we have a ton of games going on, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Wrecking Crew. Most appear to be sold out, but there are often no-shows, so it doesn’t hurt to show up with a ticket and see if they have room available, or if they’ll just let you watch.

As mentioned above, we’ll still be running panels:

Good luck to attendees, and we hope you have fun!

Antaeus: You feel the power growing within you.
Jericho: Yes. I don't know what to do. I don't know how to describe it. It's like I'm waking up and the world's on fire. I don't know whether to be elated or terrified.
Antaeus: Yes. It's an awakening. Like an event. Like an eruption.
Jericho: Am I a nova?
Antaeus: No. A child grows within you. That is the power you feel.

Scion-Jumpstart-Cover-232x300.jpg

Now available in PDF and print from DriveThruRPG: A Light Extinguished: A Scion 2nd Edition Jumpstart!

Someone has killed Bai Amari, the Luminary, a well-respected and beloved Scion of Ra. Who would want such a thing? Who could muster enough power to end the immortal life of a demigod? Is this a declaration of war? Who is behind this terrible tragedy?

The Gods and their children feel the tremors of Titanic influence behind the mystery of the Luminary’s killing and have asked key personages (the player characters) to investigate if something more sinister is afoot. Mortal law enforcement investigated the murder on a mundane level, but they need the Scions’ power: Whoever it was must have the backing of someone, or something, supernatural.

In this jumpstart, the characters must help solve the murder of an important member of their divine community before her killer can strike again and awaken a bright and terrible power.

This jumpstart adventure includes everything you need to play a full game of Scion Second Edition

  • A complete story designed to be played either in one long session or over the course of several shorter sessions
  • Five ready-to-play Scion characters
  • Condensed Storypath core rules to help facilitate Storyguides running the game
Blood-Sea-Cover-232x300.jpg

Also now available in print: Blood Sea: The Crimson Abyss for 5e!

Waves of Scarlet

In the darkest depths of the ocean floor, off the Eastern coast of Ghelspad, lies the bound titan Kadum. He bleeds endlessly from the hole in his chest where his heart was plucked out. This blood — the blood of the Mountainshaker, the blood of the Father of Monsters — corrupts everything that it touches.

Welcome to the Blood Sea

This sourcebook contains information for campaigns set in and around the Blood Sea.

Guidelines for playing characters of each class as pirates or privateers are presented, including new class archetypes who draw power from the crimson depths. Pirate organizations are introduced for characters to join or oppose, and additional rules allow players to assume roles on a ship’s crew.

Merch

We’re trying something a little different, and have uploaded a bunch of our Scion shirt designs to TeePublic! Give them a shot and see if they tickle your fancy.

If Blood Sea’s more your thing, consider picking up a shirt (RB/TP), journal, or poster!

Sales

Scarred Lands products for Pathfinder (the Scarred Lands Players Guide and The Wise & The Wicked 2nd Edition) are upwards of 90% off from IPR and Studio 2! Both products are an incredible $5 each!

It’s currently Christmas in July on DriveThruRPG, with hundreds of PDFs available at 25% off!

It’s Indie Press Revolution’s Dog Days of Summer, with 50% off select World of Darkness and Exalted deluxe editions!

As for Trinity Continuum: Aberrant itself – we’re headed into the last week for its Kickstarter, and as our experienced KS backers know: that’s when things get hot!

So far, it has been great seeing people’s passion for the original get rekindled by our Trinity Continuum edition. That’s one of the most satisfying moments our team can get – so thanks to all of you who’ve posted about loving what we’re doing!

It really does mean a lot to all of us to recreate a classic game line while still hitting those touch-points that made the first edition a classic.

HiveStudios_Aberrant1.jpgTrinity Continuum: Aberrant art by Hive Studios

Kind of along the same line, since we announced that we won’t be having a booth at GenCon 2019 we’ve received more than a few worried messages from folks who, we guess, haven’t read this blog since the beginning of the year.

That’s when I first started talking about how this year is one where the initiatives we’ve been undertaking will start to take off. It’s a year where the company’s ongoing and continual evolution will start to be more overt, with us not necessarily doing things the way we have been since 2012, or even further back when a bunch of us were part of White Wolf.

Not having a booth at GenCon 2019 is part of that evolution. Does it still make sense for us to exert soooo much effort, to bring so many people, to spend so much money, versus taking those amounts of effort, personnel, and cash, and dividing them up through the entire year at different venues?

Especially with our good sales partners at Indie Press Revolution and Studio2 having booths where folks can buy our stuff. With us still having panels where we can chat with attendees face to face. And with our online media allowing us to talk with more and more people every week.

We won’t know until we do it, so we’re doing it. We’ll let you know how it turns out!

The convention starts, for us, next Wednesday, so I’ll be posting this blog next Monday with a few more Gen Con thoughts and info, and then the week after we’ll have a guest blogger in to cover for me.

So. If, after all that, you still haven’t heard:

WE’RE NOT HAVING A BOOTH AT GEN CON 2019 AND WE’RE HAPPY ABOUT IT!

Here again, the map of the exhibit hall showing where our books can be obtained should you feel the urge:

GenCon20191-1024x450.png

Finally, there are two giant sales going on of our various projects: PDFs at the Christmas in July Sale on DTRPG, and the Dog Days of Summer Sale at Indie Press Revolution where our lots of our Deluxe editions are 50% off!

More info below in the Blurbs section, as we once again give folks an affordable way to explore our many…
